November 4: .“Issun-Boshi” and Chitose-Ame Candy Bag

Shichi-go-san, which literally means seven, five, three in Japanese, is a rite of passage celebrating the healthy growth and development of young children. On November 15, children of the ages of 3, 5, and 7, dress in kimono and visit a shrine with their family. Children receive chitose-ame or thousand-year candy in bags decorated with auspicious decorations such as cranes and turtles to wish them a long and happy life. Special family photo shoots are also held to capture the growth of children.

Join us for a kamishibai storytelling of “Issun-Boshi” or “The One Inch Boy,” a beloved Japanese folktale about a tiny boy whose courage and determination lead him on an exciting adventure.

After the storytelling, create your own Chitose-Ame candy bag, and take home and celebrate shichi-go-san with family and friends.
